What a year 2016 was. It was full of ups, downs, challenges, heartbreaks, and new adventures.

I began the year newly married to the love of my life and couldn’t wait to see what 2016 would bring us. Little did I know it would be the most challenging year of my life

It all began with excitement as my mentor and friend, Colin David Ford of Ford Momentum, joined the salon. He made the decision to become the Loyal Hair Therapy Brand Director, and to help us become the best we could be. A whirlwind of changes came with this addition and the growth began.

It were as if a new breath of air came into the salon, and we were revitalized with passion, growth, knowledge, and a new perspective. I was lucky enough to have a wealth of knowledge and talent by my side with this new business partner, and I couldn’t wait for the next day to come and see what could possibly happen. I was excited and so was the team.

Loyal Hair Therapy jumped into the year head first with new initiatives, with one in particular that is especially close to my heart. We were excited to be a part of creating empowering photo shoots that allowed us to contribute to local publication. We were able to reach out to our clients with tips, tricks, and advice.

We held our first ‘Dad and Braids’ Charity Event for the KGH Perinatal Unit and lots of superstar dads came out to learn how to style their daughters’ hair.

We were inspired when celebrity stylist, Matthew Collins, visited the salon for a weekend of training. We learned new techniques, ideas, and creativity first-hand from the master.

During this time there were changes with new faces joining the team, and others moving on, as is life in business. But things were getting better and better with each month. The excitement of running two salons, working with a legend, and with an inspiring team made life busy, but great.

Then, it all came crashing down. I lost my beautiful mother, Adele Wooldridge, suddenly. I lost my mama eagle, and I was devastated and broken. I didn’t know what I was going to do. I wasn’t sure if I could go on. I didn’t think I could.

But thanks to my amazing husband, Ian, and my truly amazing friends and staff, we made it through the darkest of times. I miss my mama Adele each and every day, but the support we all received has helped us continue to live in her spirit and enjoy every day as she would have wanted us to.

Through the grief came inspiration. 2016 was the 10-year anniversary for Loyal Hair Therapy and instead of throwing a ‘yay for us party’, we decided to put together a gala fundraiser.

Our friends and supporters came together to offer their services for free so we could raise money for the KGH Perinatal Unit. At the event, Colin and I shaved our heads for charity. So many of you donated, attended, and bid on graciously donated items. In the end, we honoured my mother through the evening and managed to raise $9,250 for the NICU. We could not have been happier.

The year came to an end and not only did we survived 2016, we thrived. Everyone at the salon is looking forward to 2017 and the opportunities to come. After overcoming the most difficult year of my life, personally and professionally, I feel empowered and as if I can do anything. I can do anything. And so can you.

Look out 2017, Loyal Hair Therapy is coming for you. We have so many great promotions and events planned, plus some big announcements headed your way. Stay tuned for this rollercoaster we call life because it’s going to be amazing.
